Sri Lanka ex-President Mahinda Rajapaksa promises new constitution
ECONOMYNEXT – Sri Lanka’s ex-President Mahinda Rajapaksa pledged to enact a new constitution in six months if he was re-elected to power in upcoming polls and ensure the independence of the judiciary.
"We will convert the parliament into a constituent assembly and bring a new constitution within six months," he told a rally in Colombo where the opposition United People’s Freedom Alliance launched its manifesto ‘A Guarantee for the Future’.
He also promised an independent judiciary and a country where all minorities will be protected
