Sri Lanka expects 150,000 visitors in September

ECONOMYNEXT – Sri Lanka is expecting 150,000 visitors in September 2019, around the same level as last year Sri Lanka Tourism Bureau chief Kishu Gomez said, as the industry continues to recover from Easter Sunday blasts.

Sri Lanka has welcomed about 4,400 tourists a day in the first eight days of September, he said.

Sri Lanka received 149,000 tourists in September 2018, or about 4,800 a month.

“September is a lean month,” he said. “We expect a growth in November.”

In October 2018 Sri Lanka welcomed 153,000 tourists.

Sri Lanka is celebrating World Tourism Day on September 27, with several events to including a pro surfing championship in Eastern Sri Lanka and food festival and expo in Colombo.

Sri Lanka is expecting about 2.0 million tourists in 2019, down from 2.3 million in 2018.
