Sri Lanka first election result around 10pm: elections commissioner

COLOMBO (EconomyNext) – Sri Lanka’s elections commission expects to release the first postal results by around 10.00 pm with votes being counted from 7.00 pm, elections commissioner Mahinda Deshapriya said.

Results from polling divisions cannot be expected before 11.00 pm, he said.

The polls were concluded with 328 incidents, including threats or intimidation being reported but there were no serious incidents involving bodily harm, he said.

Deshapriya said he was sorry to say one person who was shot at a rally before the polls died yesterday.

He said the turnout can only be said accurately after counting is concluded.

In Colombo and other areas polling was high, he said without giving a figure.
