Sri Lanka former banker, opposition party boss in charge of investments, highways
EconomyNext – Kabir Hashim assumed duties as Sri Lanka’s new Minister of Highways and Investment Promotion Friday along Eran Wickramaratne as Deputy Minister of Highways and Investment Promotion.
The two were part of a team of ‘economic heavy hitters’ in the opposition United National Party (UNP) which has formed a new coalition government with a breakaway faction of the former ruling party.
Hashim is Chairman and General Secretary of the United National Party whose leader Ranil Wickremesinghe was appointed Prime Minister after last week presidential poll.
Wickramaratne, the Treasurer of the UNP, is a former banker having been Vice President of Citibank, Colombo and Director/Chief Executive Officer of National Development Bank.
