Sri Lanka fuel pass rationing system at 50-pct of filling stations

ECONOMYNEXT – Sri Lanka has linked 50 percent of the filling stations to an online QR code fuel pass to ration oil to which 4.29 vehicles have been registered by July 27, Power and Energy Minister Kanchana Wijesekera said.

About 50 percent of filling stations, involving 409 Ceylon Petroleum Corporation and 72 Lanka IOC stations are now on the system, he said in a twitter.com message.

On July 27, 158,208 users have pumped fuel through the system.

Sri Lanka started rationing fuel after a soft-peg collapsed after two years of money printing and forex shortages persist despite raising rates to smash domestic credit and bridge the deficit.
