Sri Lanka Government’s wrong decisions responsible for Coronavirus spreading again – Rajitha
ECONOMYNEXT- Sri Lanka’s Opposition is heaping the blame on the government for the apparent second wave of COVID 19 cases saying wrong moves by the state has allowed the pandemic to spread.
Former Health Minister Rajitha Senaratne, an opposition Samagi Jana Balavegaya candidate told reporters today COVID-19 entered the country because the government kept inviting tourists in.
Speaking this morning July 13, he said that it is hard for any virus to enter Sri Lanka as there is only one way of getting inside the country which the airport.
“If the airport took necessary measures, it could have prevented any virus from entering the country,” he added.
He added that when the opposition said to lock down the country the members of the government laughed at us as they tried to compare controlling the virus with winning the war.
“We could have easily prevented corona by not even letting it enter the country, now we can’t stop it as it is spreading continuously,” he pointed out.
Further, he said that the government wants to hold the elections as soon as possible because they want to secure power but not to control corona as they knew elections getting postponed would be a disadvantage for them.
Senaratne said that the election campaign is violating health guidelines everyone started being busy with campaigning which in turn made the Health Ministry relax.
“I request the government to listen to the health and medical opinions and not to the opinions given by political groups, to control this situation,” he added. (Colombo/July14/2020)
