Sri Lanka hires Greenstat India to study hydrogen driven transport

ECONOMYNEXT – Sri Lanka’s ministry of energy has hired Greenstat Hydrogen India (Pvt) Ltd, a unit of Greeenstat AS, Norway to study the use of hydrogen for transport.

The cabinet had cleared a proposal by Energy Minister Udaya Gammanpila to get Greestat to study the feasibility on a pilot project.

‘Green’ hydrogen will be generated using a floating solar and wind farm.

Liquid hydrogen can be fired in fuel cells and other devices to combine with oxygen to generate energy.

Hydrogen power buses are used in some counties.

The move is part of Sri Lanka’s plans to move out of fossil fuels. (Colombo/Feb01/2022)
