Sri Lanka inflation accelerates to 4.5-pct in April
EC0NOMYNEXT – Sri Lanka’s inflation accelerated to 4.5 percent in the 12-months to April 2019, from 4.3 percent in March the state statistics office said.
Sri Lanka’s Colombo Consumer Price Index grew 0.3 percent to 127.0 points from 126.6 points a month earlier.
Sri Lanka’s rupee fell steeply in the last quarter of 2018 and liquidity shortage has kept price increase muted.
Prices usually rise in April amid liquidity injections and festival spending, even when the currency does not fall.
Prices usually pick up after liquidity shortages end, analysts say. (Colombo/May01/2019-SB)
