ECONOMYNEXT – Sri Lanka has invited India’s Alliance Air which is now flying to Jaffna to also extend the flight to Ratamalana in Colombo, Aviation Minister Nimal Siripala de Silva said.
Alliance Air which is now flying to Jaffna’s KKS airport from Madras four times a week.
“I have requested that the frequency be increased to seven day, and same flight to also come to Ratmalana, and if possible, also to Mattala,” Minister de Silva told parliament.
He did not say whether the airline would be allowed to carry passengers within the airports.
Alliance Air will soon mark the 100th flight to Sri Lanka, he said.
Jaffna airport is now accommodating 60-seater aircraft.
Discussions are also underway to extend the runway to accommodate Airbus A320 aircraft. (Colombo/Jun06/2023)
It would be interesting to note if the Indian government will allow a Sri Lankan airline to operate domestic routes in India
