Sri Lanka legislator calls on “patriots” to boycott the US until Shavendra ban is lifted
UNF Parliamentarian S.M. Marikkar said that he will personally refrain from applying for an American visa until the United States lifts the ban on Army Commander Shavendra Silva and his family from entering that country.
The Opposition Parliamentarian also called on the “so-called patriots in the Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna” to join the boycott.
On Friday Sri Lanka’s army chief Silva was banned from entering the the USA, over alleged human rights violations committed in the last stages of the island’s civil war which ended in 2009, US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo said.
Speaking to reporters this morning, the Opposition MP said that the UNP thoroughly condemns this action taken by the United States and added that Sri Lanka is an independent, sovereign and democratic state which will not be ready to work according to the interventions from foreign governments.
