Sri Lanka may not renew emergency: President

ECONOMYNEXT – Sri Lanka’s security forces had made rapid progress in restoring security after Easter Sunday blasts and emergency law may not be renewed again, President Maithripala Sirisena had told foreign ambassador is Colombo.

President Sirisena had requested foreign envoys to lift travel advisories, as the security situation was now much better.

Security and intelligence services had scored major successes against the terror threat and the security situation was now almost 99 percent assured, he had said.

There may not be a requirement to further extend emergency law, President had said.

Foreign envoys had assured that they will assist in relaxing travel warnings.

President Sirisena had thanked foreign countries for intelligence and other assistance provided following the Easter Sunday blasts.
