Sri Lanka merchandise exports down 3.6-pct in 2020 first two months
ECONOMYNEXT – Sri Lanka’s exports were down 3.6 percent to 1,931 million US dollars in the first two months of 2020, the island’s Export Development Board said before a Coronavirus crisis took hold.
Sri Lankan exporters have shipped 2,429 products to 174 countries. USA had bought 260 million dollars of goods, UK, 95 million India 73 million dollars, Germany 51 million dollars and Italy 40 mn.
Apparel exports were 939 million US dollars, mainly to the US, UK, Italy, Germany and Belgium. Tea was 208 million US dollars mainly to Iran, Russia, Turkey and Iran.
Coconut products were 100 million US dollars mainly to USA, Germany, India, China, Mexico and Japan.
Rubber Finished Products were 142 million dollars falling by 9 million dollars. Products included, tyres, gloves, gaskets, seals, sheets and rods to US, Germany, Italy, Belgium, Vietnam and Saudi Arabia.
Threwere 12 millon dollars of insulated wires to India, Maldives and Mexico.
Switch boards &panels, Electrical Transformers were the other Electric &Electronic & Mechanical products that were exported. (Colombo/Mar29/2020)
