Sri Lanka Millennium Challenge Grant to be hotly debated
ECONOMYNEXT – A forum on Sri Lanka’s program with the Millennium Challenge Corporation will be held later today with the participation of Megapolis Minister Patali Champika and MCC Country Director Jenner Edelman.
Speakers include Amal Kumarage (Head of the Department of Transport and Logistics Management, University of Moratuwa), Saman Widanapathiranage (Deputy Director, Highway Designs at the Road Development Authority (RDA) and Sarath Jayatilaka (Former Deputy Surveyor General).
Charitha Herath (Former Secretary, Ministry of Mass Media and Lecturer, University of Peradeniya) will also join a panel discussion.
The forum is organized by Advocata Institute, a Colombo-based think tank, and will be held at the Lakshman Kadirgamar Institute this Thursday, 19th September, from 5.30 PM onwards.
“The Millenium Challenge Corporation (MCC) has become a topic of recent debate,” the Advocata Institute said in a statement.
“Some claim that it is an effort to hijack Sri Lanka’s sovereignty by the US, whilst others argue that it is an opportunity to create economic prosperity for Sri Lankans.”
