Sri Lanka motor traffic dept runs from regional office amid Covid-19 hit, hotlines given
ECONONYNEXT – Sri Lanka’s Department of Motor Traffic said it will operate out of an office in Werahera and regional offices after its head office was closed amid a surge in Coronavirus infections in the capital Colombo.
People residing in not isolated areas will be able to contact the Werahera office by prior appointment.
“It is strictly advised to make prior appointments and to avoid visiting our premises by the clients who live in the risky areas until the risk is eliminated,” the Department of Motor Traffic Commissioner, Sumith C. K. Alahakoon said in a statement.
“We highly expect that our clients would strictly adhere to government health guidelines viz., wearing face masks, washing hands, maintaining the social distances and extending the fullest cooperation to the security officers and the other staff to maintain the hygienic standards.”

3- Obtaining new dates and time for the candidates who have already received dates for practical tests, obtaining new driving licences, renewing driving licenses – 070-635-4123

The department will provide services through Jaffna, Anuradhapura, Kurunegala, Gampaha and Hambantota district offices, a media statement from the office said.
“The head office at Narahenpita which had been closed due to the risk of Covid 19 cannot be re-opened as the risk is not yet eliminated,” Sumith C. K. Alahakoon, Commissioner General of Department of Motor Traffic said.
“We have planned to provide many of the services provided by the head office including motor vehicle transfers, through Jaffna, Anuradhapura, Kurunegala, Gampaha and Hambantota district offices, with the aim of minimizing the inconveniences faced by our clients.”
The general public will be able to obtain the services from November 11 onwards.
