Sri Lanka MTD Walkers says to await outcome of well water pollution probe
EconomyNext – Sri Lanka’s MTD Walkers has asked the public in northern Jaffna to wait for the outcome of an official inquiry into allegations its power subsidiary was polluting well water without being swayed by rumours.
In a statement, the company repeated its rejected of allegations its Northern Power Company thermal power station in Jaffna was releasing waste oil and polluting wells in the peninsula.
“We earnestly appeal to all stakeholders especially people of the north, not to be misled by rumours and baseless allegations fueled by parties with vested interests and ulterior motives," MTD Walkers Chief Executive Lal Perera said in a statement.
He asked them to "patiently wait" for the outcome of an independent probe the state research outfit, Industrial Technology Institute, and the rulings of the judiciary.
