Sri Lanka names radical organization behind Easter bombings
ECONOMYNEXT – A radicalized organization calling itself National Thowfeeth Jama’th (NTJ) already tracked by domestic and foreign intelligence agencies had carried out co-ordinated bombings in Sri Lanka that killed around 300 people, Minister Rajitha Senaratne said.
Foreign intelligence agencies had given multiple warnings to Sri Lanka over its plans but not enough action had been taken, he said.
Senaratne said some members of the organization named in intelligence reports are among 24 arrested and some are among those who died in suicide attacks.
State intelligence services had given reports on the group’s intention to attack churches but authorities at higher levels had not acted on it, he said.
Persons linked to the group had earlier been arrested over another incident earlier but had been released, Minister Kabir Hashim said.
