Sri Lanka opposition in no confidence motion against Finance Minister
COLOMBO (EconomyNext) – Sri Lanka’s opposition has handed over a no confidence motion to the Parliamentary Speaker against Finance Minister Ravi Karunanayake, a legislator said.
Ranjith de Zoysa, from the opposition Sri Lanka Freedom Party said "close to 100" legislators of the 224 member assembly had signed the petition.
De Zoysa said they moved the motion citing a deterioration of the economy, the appointment of a foreign national as the Central Bank Governor and a Treasury bond scam which had resulted in large losses to the state.
He said a three-member committee appointed by the administration had cleared the Central Bank Governor of wrongdoing but they wanted an independent probe.
The report of the committee has also not been tabled in parliament, he said. Parliament is to sit again this week.
