Sri Lanka opposition presidential candidate to probe spin doctors

EconomyNext – Sri Lanka’s common opposition candidate Maithripala Sirisena has pledged to investigate contracts given to foreign lobbying firms and public relations companies to defend Sri Lanka’s human rights record.

In his manifesto, Sirisena referred to more than half-a-dozen contracts the Central Bank of Sri Lanka had awarded to US-based companies on behalf of the Sri Lankan government at millions of dollars.

"I will take steps to investigate and take legal action over contracts, advisory services and other facilities given to various private institutions and persons by the Foreign Ministry and the Central Bank."

Sirisena has expressed confidence that he will win the January 8 presidential election .

Recently, one of the foreign spin doctors was arrested on a charge of assaulting a hotel employee and the case was later compounded when it transpired that he had been brought into the country on a secret mission for the government.
