Sri Lanka opposition wants gag order on Maithri letter, Mahinda rejects contents
ECONOMYNEXT – Sri Lanka’s opposition United People’s Freedom Alliance has asked the elections commissioner to gag media discussion of a letter sent by President Maithripala Sirisena on the eve of parliamentary polls.
A letter signed by lawyers on behalf of the party’s lawyers association, also asked for President Sirisena to be directed ask voters to disregard the contents of Thursday’s letter, which said that ex-President Mahinda Rajapaksa would not be appointed the Prime Minister.
Ex-President Mahinda Rajapaksa replying President Sirisena Friday said he rejected allegations in the letter.
Rajapaksa said the he hoped President Sirisena will respect the decision of the people at the August polls. (Colombo/Aug14/2015)
