Sri Lanka Podujana Party leads in results declared
ECONOMYNEXT – Sri Lanka Podujana Party of President Gotabaya Rajapaksa is leading with over 100 polling divisions out of 196 declared in the 2020 general elections.
SLPP, in a campaign led by Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa had won 59 percent of the vote or around 4.0 million of the declared polling divisions.
Samagi Jana Balawegaya led by Sajith Premadasa had won 23 percent. The National People’s Power led by Anura Dissanayake about 4 percent and the United National Party about 3 percent.
Seats have been allocated in Matara and Galle districts.
SLPP has received 6 and the Samagi Jana Balawegaya led by Sajith Premadasa 1 in Matara.
In Galle the SLPP won 7 seats and the SJB 2.
The SLPP has won over 70 percent of the votes in many polling divisions.
The SJB has polled between 13 to 20 percent.
SLPP has been asking for a two thirds majority to change the constitution and implement its policies. (Colombo/Aug06/2020)
