Sri Lanka President appoints Ranugge salary commission
ECONOMYNEXT – Sri Lanka’s President Maithripala Sirisena had appointed a commission headed by S Ranugge, a retired public officer, to revise state worker salaries and eliminate anomalies which had led to jealousies and strikes among some workers such as railway engine drivers.
The commission will examine salary and allowance circulars and study the effects on the Department of Railways.
Look at the circulars of the Railway, Health, Higher Education and Postal services who had made requests for salary increments recently and come up with proposals to minimize anomalies if any.
Look at all country-wide state services and salaries.
Look at the similar responsibilities and qualifications of workers in the government and semi-government institutions and devise a circular to end anomalies.
