Sri Lanka President directs ministry secretaries after court order
ECONOMYNEXT – Sri Lanka’s President Maithripala Sirisena has met secretaries of ministries in Sri Lanka and given them orders to run the institutions, a statement from his office said following the suspension of a disputed Prime Minister and cabinet by court.
President Sirisena had instructed "all the Secretaries of the Ministries to fulfill their respective duties and responsibilities according to the laws of the country continuously without any disruption," the statement said.
The President had also given orders for the military and armed forces " to fulfill their duties and responsibilities with commitment towards the general public of the country and for the national security.
Sri Lanka’s Court of Appeal halted Mahinda Rajapaksa and several legislators from acting as prime ministers, deputy ministers.
Sri Lanka has been gripped by a political crisis since Rajapaksa was appointed Prime Minister by President on October 26.
