Sri Lanka President proclaims cabinet dissolved
ECONOMYNEXT – Sri Lanka’s President had proclaimed that the cabinet of ministers been dissolved, the state information office said in the latest even of the islands’ unfolding constitutional crisis.
"The Presidential Secretariat notify to all the Heads of the Government Departments, chairmen of the state corporations, statutory Boards and state Banks that in view of the appointment of a new Prime Minister with effect from 26tn of October 2018 under the Constitution of the Democratic Socialist Republic of Sri Lanka, the tenure of the existing Cabinet of Ministers shall stand dissolved," a statement signed by newly appointed Director General of Information said.
President Maithripala Sirisena appointed ex-President Mahinda Rajapaksa as Prime Minister Friday, saying Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe was no longer in office.
Wickremesinghe insists he is still in office, triggering a constitutional crisis. Parliament has since been suspended until November 16. (Colombo/Oct28/2018)
