Sri Lanka President prorogues parliament

ECONOMYNEXT – Sri Lanka President Gotabaya Rajapaksa has prorogued parliament till January 18, 2022, according to a gazette notice.

Parliament was earlier expected to meet on January 11.

Parliament had been prorogued from the December 12, until 1000 am on January 18, the notice said.

The action, among others automatically dissolves parliamentary committees including the Committee on Public Enterprises, political analysts said.

The COPE had recently questioned the Board of Investment officials leading to the resignation of its chairman and several other officials.
