Sri Lanka President sacks party secretaries
ECONOMYNEXT – Sri Lanka’s President Maithripala Sirisena had sacked the general secretary of his party and the broader opposition coalition, in an escalation of internal divisions, political sources said.
General Secretary of the Sirisena’s Sri Lanka Freedom Party Anura Yapa and Susil Premajayantha from the United People’s Freedom Alliance had been replaced by Duminda Disssanayake and Wishwa Warnapala as acting general secretaries.
A court order had also been obtained to back the move.
District Judge Harsha Sethunga fixed the hearing for August 28, but granted a restraining order prohibiting Yapa and Premajantha from interfering in the work of the two new appointees.
