ECONOMYNEXT – Sri Lanka’s President Gotabaya Rajapaksa has said he is looking forward to working with the United State and European Union, strengthening economic and trade ties.
“I thank @SecPompeo for conveying the good wishes,” President Rajapaksa said replying a twitter.com message from US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo.
President Rajapaksa said he was looking forward to “warm & mutually beneficial relations with the #USA , including bilateral economic and trade ties between the two nations and increased inward investments.”
“We applaud the people of #SriLanka on their democratic election and stand ready to work with them and the President to uphold Sri Lanka’s commitments on security sector reform, accountability, and respect for human rights,” Pompeo had said.
He also replied to a twitter.com message from the European Union, congratulating him on his election victory.
“I thank the @EU_in_Sri_Lanka for the good wishes & look fwd to fostering warm & mutually beneficial relations with the Union,” President Rajapaksa said.
“With the democratic mandate given, we will create an environment of confidence, certainty & predictability for economic, investment & trade to be enhanced.”
“We congratulate President Rajapaksa and look forward to working with him to uphold Sri Lanka’s commitments to implement international conventions on fundamental rights and to continue efforts aimed at improving governance, human rights, and reconciliation,” the EU twitter.com message had said.
