Sri Lanka President says scrapped Chandrasena, Godahewa appointments
ECONOMYNEXT – Sri Lanka’s President Maithripala Sirisena said he had opposed the appointments of Kapila Chandrasena as Chairman to SriLankan Airlines and Nalaka Godahewa to Sri Lanka Insurance.
"The person at SriLankan had been removed," President Sirisena told Colombo based Foreign Correspondents Friday.
"We opposed the appointment as soon as it was done."
Chandrasena is at the centre of several fraud allegations at SriLankan Airlines under a commission of inquiry appointed by President Sirisena himself.
Soon after disputed Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa was appointed by President Sirisena, plunging the country into a political crisis, Kapila Chandrasena was also brought back as Chairman of the airline, while the inquiry was still underway.
Godahewa is also on bail related to another matter.
"We also opposed Nalaka Godahewa," he said. I believe Nalaka Godahewa has also been removed."
President Sirisena said judicial inquiries against alleged financial frauds during the Rakapaksa regime will continue. (Colombo/Nov26/2018)
