Sri Lanka rains kill four; 660,000 driven from homes

COLOMBO (EconomyNext) – Heavy rains across the country have killed at least four people and driven 660,000 out of their homes, the disaster management centre said today.

It said Eastern province was the worst affected with more than half a million people affected by flooding that also claimed the lives of two people. One each was killed in North-Western and Central provinces, the DMC said.

Several roads leading to the north and eastern towns were underwater.

The DMC said there was a bad weather warning for the next 24 hours with heavy rains accouned by strong winds along the coastal areas from Mannar to Batticaloa via Galle.
