Sri Lanka raises Treasury bill ceiling, parliament passes taxes
ECONOMYNEXT – Sri Lanka’s parliament gave the nod to raise a ceiling on Treasury bills outstanding by 400 billion rupees and also passed a series income, value added and nation building taxes, gaming and broadcast taxes proposed in the last budget.
The taxes were passed with amendments at the committee stage.
A tax on telecoms which was withdrawn was not taken up.
Finance Minister Ravi Karunanayake said at the start of the debate that telecom firms had given benefits to the consumers this year.
