Sri Lanka re-shuffles UNP ministers, UPFA changes planned says President

ECONOMYENTX – Sri Lanka’s President Maithripala Sirisena has sworn in new ministers from the United National Party with changes from his United People’s Freedom Alliance promised later.

Minister Ranil Wickremesighe is the law and order minister, and Kabir Hashim as minister of highways.

"I congratulate the newly appointed Cabinet, State and Deputy Ministers," President Sirisena said in a message.

"These changes as well as those soon to be made on the UPFA side of the government will strengthen us to better serve our people."


Ravindra Samaraweera – Cabinet Minister of Wildlife & Sustainable Development.

Harin Fernando – Cabinet Minister of Digital Infrastructure & Foreign Employment.

Ranil Wickemasinghe – Cabinet Minister of Law and Order

Kabir Hashim – Cabinet Minister of Higher Education

Laxman Kirelle – Cabinet Minister of State Enterprise and Kandy Development.





Sagala Ratnayake – Cabinet Minster of Youth Affairs and Southern Development.

State Ministers

Harsha De Silva – State Minister of National Policies and Economic Affairs.

Ajith P Perara – State Minister of Prisons and Rehabilitation.

Piyasena Gamage –  State Minister Youth Affairs and Southern Development.

Deputy Ministers

J C Alawathuwala is the new Deputy Minister of Home Affairs.

President Sirisena has said that policies and programs of the administration has to be improved, following the hammering at local council polls.

"Taking the people’s message expressed at the recent #LGpollSL, the government needs to improve its policies, programmes and actions to serve our people better," the President said in a message.

"The first priority of my government is the people and the country."

A high profile bondscam connected to then Central Bank Governor Arjuna Mahendra, inflation and currency depreciation as well as President Sirisena’s attacks on the coalition contributed to the vote losses, according to political analysts.
