Sri Lanka records first domestic transmission of COVID19 – Health Chief

Sri Lankan Health authorities are confirming the first case of domestic transmission of the coronavirus COVID19.

Director General Health Services the top official in charge of the subject Dr Anil Jasinghe said a 52-year old man who is confirmed to have the virus has contracted the disease locally.

He is a resident of the capital Colombo and is said to be an Italian speaking tourist guide who has been working recently with a group of Italian tourists.

Jasinghe said that the authorities are trying to trace where the patient has been in the past few weeks, and who he has had contact with.

They are looking for the Italian tour group as well, he said.

The patient is the second person with COVID19 who has been discovered in Sri Lanka.

The first was a Chinese tourist who made a complete recovery and has since returned.

The current patient is warded at the Infectious Diseases Hospital, the same Medical Institution where the Chinese patient made her recovery.
