COLOMBO (EconomyNext) – Sri Lanka slapped an annual registration fee of 1.5 million rupees to take away the freedom of individual citizens to import cars, in a mini-budget presented.
Finance minister Ravi Karunanayake said the tax was a suggestion of Sri Lanka’s car importers associations.
The tax will take away a long held freedom of individual citizens to import cars.
The move allows registered car importers to earn ‘fees’ from individual importers.
