Sri Lanka rupee, bonds open stable ahead of holiday weekend

ECONOMYNEXT- Sri Lanka’s rupee opened stable at 174.60/80 the US dollar in the spot market Friday, while the bond market was quiet, and stocks fell ahead of a main holiday weekened, market participants said.

The rupee closed at 174.60/75 to the US dollar in the spot market on Friday.
At the Colombo Stock Exchange, the All Share Price Index (ASPI) was 4.63 points lower at 5,571.48 in the first half hour of trading, while the more liquid S&P SL20 Index was up 9.59 points to 2,726.68.
Market turnover was 59.8 million rupees with 14 stocks gaining and 30 falling.
Dialog Axiata was the most active stock, trading flat at 9.10 rupees and generating 59 percent of turnover.
East West Properties Plc was also active, trading 60 cents higher at 18.90 rupees a share, after reports said its subsidiary Weligama Hotel Properties Limited was sold to Singapore’s Hotel Properties Limited.
Hemas Holdings, down 2.80 rupees at 75.10 rupees a share weighed down the ASPI, while Carson Cumberbatch was trading 9.90 rupees higher at 165 rupees a share.
Index-heavy John Keells Holdings was trading 1.50 rupees higher at 153 rupees a share, after weighing down the ASPI earlier with trades at 151 rupees a share.
The bond market was quiet with stable yields a day before the traditional new year, dealers said.
Twelve-month bills were quoted at 9.80/95 percent on Friday, unchanged from Thursday’s close. 
A newly issued bond maturing on 15.03.2022 was quoted 10.40/45 at percent, stable from 10.40/47  percent.  
A bond maturing on 15.07.2023 was quoted at 10.65/70 percent, flat from Thursday.
A 5-year bond maturing on 15.03.2024 was quoted at 10.75/78 percent, unchanged from the previous close.
A bond maturing on 01.06.2026 was quoted at 10.95/00 percent, easing from 10.97/00 percent.  
New bond maturing on 15.01.2027 was quoted at 10.98/02  percent, unchanged from Thursday.
A bond maturing on 01.05.2029 was quoted at 11.15/20 percent, easing from 11.17/22 percent. (Colombo/Apr12/2019-SB)
