Sri Lanka rupee closes weaker at 194.50/195.00 to the US dollar in the spot market
ECONOMYNEXT – Sri Lanka’s rupee closed weaker at 194.50/195.00 to the US dollar in the spot market on Wednesday while bond yields edged up slightly, dealers said.
The rupee last closed in the spot market at 194/195.00 to the dollar on Tuesday.
In the secondary market bond yields picked up slight in moderate market activity, dealers said.
Sri Lanka’s debt office offered 125 billion rupees in a bond auction to be held tomorrow.
The bond auction was undersubscribed for the second week, only 73 per cent or 90.9 billion rupees.
The central bank offered 25 billion rupees of 2 years 11-month bonds maturing on November 15, 2023, and accepted bids of 14.55 billion rupees.
The bonds were sold at a weighted average yield of 6.25 per cent, down from 6.30 per cent.
The central bank also offered 30.0 billion rupees of 03-year 09-month bonds and accepted 17.85 billion rupees of bids at a weighted average of 6.70 per cent down from 9.85 per cent
The 40 billion rupee offer for 7-year 7-months at 9.00 per cent was sold only sold 28.55 billion rupees at a weighted average of 7.57 per cent.
The 35 billion rupee offer for 2-year 5-months drew bids of 83 billion rupees and a 7-year bond had drawn bids of 54 billion rupees.
The 25 billion rupee offer for 2-year 11-months drew bids of 29.75 billion rupees, the 3-year bond had drawn bids of 33.1 billion rupees and the 7-year bond of 40 billion rupees had drawn bids of 58.9 billion rupees.
A bond maturing on 15.12.2022 closed flat at 5.75/85 per cent on Wednesday from Tuesday’s end.
A bond maturing on 01.10.2023 closed at 6.20/30 per cent, up from 6.00/15 per cent at Tuesday’s end.
A bond maturing on 01.12.2024 closed at 6.73/83 per cent on Wednesday, up from 6.68/78 per cent at Tuesday’s end.
A bond maturing on 01.05.2025 closed flat at 6.80/7.00 per cent.
A bond maturing on 15.01.2026 closed at 7.05/15 per cent up from 7.00/15 per cent at Tuesday’s end.
A bond maturing on 15.08.2027 closed unchanged at 7.20/40 per cent from Tuesday’s end.
