Sri Lanka rupee ends weaker in spot next, gilt yields steady

ECONOMYNEXT- Sri Lanka’s rupee closed weaker at 193.75/194.75 to the US dollar in the spot next market on Wednesday from a day earlier dealer said, while bonds yields were steady.

Rupee last closed at 192.50/194.00 to the US dollar on Tuesday.

Central Bank’s first policy review meeting will be held next week.

In bond markets gilt yields were steady, dealers said.

A 2-year bond maturing on 15.12.2022 closed at 5.30/35 per cent on Wednesday, stable from 5.30/40 per cent at Tuesday’s end.

A bond maturing on 15.01.2023 closed at 5.35/38 per cent on Wednesday, down from 5.37/42 per cent at the last closing.

A bond maturing on 15.09.2024 closed at 6.17/20 per cent, down from 6.20/23 per cent at the previous day’s end.

A bond maturing on 01.05.2025 closed at 6.30/40 per cent on Wednesday, down from 6.35/45 per cent at Tuesday’s end.

A bond maturing on 01.02.2026 closed at 6.50/57 per cent on Wednesday, down from 6.58/60 per cent at the last closing.

A bond maturing on 15.08.2027 closed at 7.05/10 per cent, narrower from 7.05/15 per cent at the previous day’s end.

A bond maturing on 01.07.2028 closed flat at 7.20/40 per cent from Tuesday’s end.

A 10-year bond maturing on 15.05.2030 closed at 7.50/70 per cent on Wednesday, narrower from 7.55/75 per cent.
