Sri Lanka rupee quoted firm, gilt yields marginally down

ECONOMYNEXT – Sri Lanka rupee quoted firmer at 184.35/45 to the US dollar on Friday while bond yields eased marginally in the overall market, dealers said.

The rupee closed at 184.45/60 against the greenback on Thursday.

Sri Lanka’s health ministry Gazetted the COVID-19 prevention guidelines making them laws. Therefore all the guidelines will be enforced by the lay and violators can be fined or imprisoned. Under the new gazette wearing a face mask and maintaining social distancing in public places has been made compulsory.

In the money market, liquidity was 183.80 billion rupees on Thursday up from 177.04 billion rupees from the previous day’s close.

In the secondary securities market, bond yields eased marginally while the overall the market was active, dealers said.

A 2-year bond maturing on 15.12.2022 was quoted at 5.50/57 per cent on Friday, down from 5.52/57 cent at Thursday’s closing.

A bond maturing on 15.01.2023 was quoted unchanged at 5.53/58 per cent Friday from the last closing.

A bond maturing on 15.09.2024 was quoted at 6.00/05 per cent, steady from 6.00/10 per cent at the previous closing.

A bond maturing on 01.05.2025 was quoted at 6.25/33 per cent, down from 6.28/35 per cent at the last closing.

A bond maturing on 01.02.2026 was quoted at 6.50/52 per cent on Friday, down from 6.55/60 per cent at Thursday’s end.

A bond maturing on 15.08.2027 was quoted at 6.80/85 per cent on Friday, down from 6.80/87 per cent at the previous day’s end.

A bond maturing on 01.07.2028 was quoted at 7.08/12 per cent, up from 7.05/15 per cent at the previous day’s end.

A 10-year bond maturing on 15.05.2030 was quoted flat at 7.35/45 per cent from the previous day’s end. (Colombo/Oct16/2020)
