Sri Lanka rupee quoted steady, gilt yields remained unchanged
ECONOMYNEXT – Sri Lanka rupee quoted weak at 184.40/45 to the US dollar on Thursday while yields were flat in dull market trade, dealers said.
The rupee closed at 184.35/45 against the greenback on Wednesday.
After a month after the new Coronavirus outbreak in the country, infection cases stands at 8,000 while officials health experts claim the new outbreak to carry a higher virus load thereby making it highly contagious than the first outbreak in March.
Sri Lanka has also imposed price controls on rice as price spiked due to the import controls.
In the secondary securities market, bond yields remained flat in dull market trade, dealers said.
A 2-year bond maturing on 15.12.2022 was quoted at 5.58/64 per cent on Thursday, flat from 5.58/65 per cent at Wednesday’s closing.
A bond maturing on 15.01.2023 was quoted at 5.62/72 per cent on Thursday, up from 5.60/70 per cent at Wednesday’s end.
A bond maturing on 15.09.2024 was quoted at 6.18/24 per cent, unchanged from 6.18/25 per cent at the previous day’s end.
A bond maturing on 01.05.2025 was quoted at 6.35/45 per cent on Thursday, up from 6.32/42 per cent at the last closing.
A bond maturing on 01.02.2026 was quoted at 6.58/64 per cent, flat from 6.58/62 per cent.
A bond maturing on 15.08.2027 was quoted flat at 6.90/95 per cent on Thursday from the previous day’s end.
A bond maturing on 01.07.2028 was quoted at 7.10/15 per cent, up from 7.08/18 per cent at the previous day’s closing.(Colombo/November05/2020)
