Sri Lanka, Seychelles to deepen trade, tourism ties
ECONOMYNEXT – Sri Lanka and the Seychelles have agreed to develop trade and tourism relations between the two countries during a two-day visit by President Maithripala Sirisena.
He met with the Seychelles President Danny Faure Monday for bilateral talks where two agreements were signed, a statement said.
One was between the University of Moratuwa and the Information Technology University of Seychelles on the advancement of information technology.
The second was between the University of Sri Lanka Vocational Technology and Seychelles Technology Institute on bilateral cooperation in vocational training.
Faure asked for support from Sri Lanka to fight drug abuse and training for the healthcare, military, and judicial and legal drafting sectors.
President Sirisena promised to award ten annual scholarships to Seychelles students in the field of vocational training.
There are currently 2,400 Sri Lankan workers in the Seychelles. (COLOMBO, 09 October 2018)
