Sri Lanka shares down, foreign buying in Ceylinco Insurance
ECONOMYNEXT – Sri Lankan shares closed lower Monday with turnover boosted by block deals, the biggest of which were in Ceylinco Insurance which accounted for most of the foreign buying, brokers said.
The All Share Price Index closed at 6,449.90, down 26.88 points (0.42%) while the more liquid S&P SL20 index fell 16.07 points (0.44%) to close at 3,634.03. Turnover was 2.3 billion.
Asia Securities said crossings or off-the-floor negotiated deals accounted for 64.0% of the turnover with five crossings each in Ceylinco Insurance, and Melstacorp and one crossing each in Hatton National Bank, Sampath Bank and Hemas Holdings.
Estimated net foreign buying topped in Ceylinco Insurance which closed unchanged at Rs1,800.
