Sri Lanka shares gain over 2.5-pct in mid-day trade

ECONOMYNEXT – Sri Lanka’s shares gained over 2.5 percent in mid-morning trade on Thursday (15) crossing the 10,000 points psychological benchmark. moved by banking and retail shares, Colombo Stock Exchange data showed.

The main All Share Price Index gained 2.51 percent or 248.74 points to 10,162.86 at 1100 hours.

“The market moved mainly on John Keells Holdings following the gazette on 20-year casino licenses,” a market analyst said.

Sri Lanka’s President on Wednesday (14) issued a gazette allowing casino licenses to be issued for 20-years but the operations are to be conducted in an orderly and platonic manner.

Most liquid S&P SL20 rose 3.01 percent or 95.61 points to 3,275.40.

Market generated a turnover of 3.1 billion rupees.
