Sri Lanka state firms to import 134,000 tonnes of fertilizer

ECONOMYNEXT – Sri Lanka’s state-run Ceylon Fertilizer Company Ltd, and Colombo Commercial Fertilizers Ltd, has awarded contracts to two suppliers to import 134,000 metric tonnes of fertilizer.

Sri Lanka has now started the Yala cultivation season.

Agri Commodities and Finance Ltd, had won a contract to supply 54,000 metric tonnes of granular urea at 325 US dollar a tonne.

The firm will also supply 65,000 metric tonnes of prilled Urea at 325 US dollar a metric tonne.
Swiss Singapore Overseas Enterprises had been awarded a contracted a supply 15,000 metric tonnes of super phosphate at 334.1 US dollars a tonne.

Sri Lanka gave a cash subsidy for fertilizer last year, but state bureaucrats imposed price control amid a rise in oil prices, generating shortages.  (Colombo/Aug23/2018)
