Sri Lanka stock market to close early on election day
ECONOMYNEXT – Sri Lanka’s stock market will close early at 1230 hours on Wednesday 05 August, as the country goes for the coronavirus-delayed parliamentary polls, Colombo Stock Exchange said.
The market will open at 1100hours and close at 1230hours.
Sri Lanka’s was originally planning to have elections on April 25 and parliament was expected to meet on May 14.
But the Elections Commission had delayed polls to August 05, on account of the Coronavirus crisis.
President Gotabaya Rajapaksa said he is summoning parliament August 20, under Article 70 (1) of the constitution.
Trading hours will be as follows:
Pre-open session – from 10.30 a.m. to 11.00 a.m.
Open Auction – at 11.00 a.m.
Regular Trading – will commence after the Open Auction at 11.00 a.m.
Market close – at 12.30 p.m.
