Sri Lanka stocks close 0.23-pct higher

ECONOMYNEXT – Sri Lanka stocks closed 0.23 percent higher on Wednesday, helped by LOLC Development Finance, Expolanka and Asiri Hospital Holdings, brokers said.

The Colombo benchmark All Share Price Index gained 17.81 points to close at 7,659.00.

The S&P SL20 index of more liquid stocks gained 0.38 per cent or 11.55 points to close at 3,084.22.

Turnover was 3.9 billion rupees with 77 stocks gaining and 88 falling.

LOLC Finance closed flat at 6.80 rupees and LOLC Development Finance closed 26.25 rupees or 25 percent up at 131.25 rupees a share.

LOLC Holdings gained 8.00 rupees to close at 409.00 rupees, Browns Investment closed flat at 6.30 rupees a share and Brown and Company gained 3.25 rupees to close at 183.75rupees a share.

John Keells Holdings closed 2.75 rupees down at 406.25 rupees a share and Vallibel one closed 10 cents down at 54.40 rupees a share.

Hayleys Plc closed 1.20 rupees up at 78.80 rupees with key subsidiaries Dipped Products closing 50 cents up at 54.00 rupees and Haycarb Plc gained 4.70 rupees to close at 101.00 rupees.

The Kingsbury closed 10 cents down at 6.20 and Singer Sri Lanka closed flat at 18.50 rupees.

Asiri Hospital Holdings closed 1.40 rupees up at 30.00 rupees a share.

Ceylon Tobacco Company PLC closed flat at 970.00 rupees, Piramal Glass Ceylon closed flat at 12.30 rupees while Ceylon Cold stores closed 8.75 rupees up at 630.00 rupees.

Sri Lanka Telecom closed 20 cents down at 33.30 rupees, Richard Pieris and Company closed 10 cents down at 17.80 rupees.

Dialog Axiata closed flat at 13.10 rupees, Nestle Lanka closed flat at 1,113.75 rupees.

Housing Development Finance closed 80 cents up at 36.00 rupees and Central Finance Company closed 40 cents down at 95.20 rupees.

Commercial Bank of Ceylon closed flat at 90.00 rupees.

Hatton National Bank closed flat at 137.25 rupees a share and Sampath Bank closed 20 cents up at 55.20 rupees a share.

DFCC Bank closed 30 cents down at 63.10 rupees and Nations Trust Bank closed 80 cents down at 58.80 rupees.

Seylan Bank closed 10 cents down at 50.80 rupees and Pan Asia Banking Corporation closed flat at 16.60 rupees.

Bukit Darah closed 2.75 rupees down at 270.00 rupees and Hemas Holdings closed 50 cents down at 85.10 rupees.

Ceylon Grain Elevators closed 1.00 rupee up at 139.00 rupees.

Distilleries Company closed 20 cents down at 20.80 rupees a share while Melstacorp Plc fell 10 cents to close at 51.50 rupees.

In the hotel sector, Eden Hotel Lanka closed 10 cents up at 9.90 rupees, John Keells Hotels closed 20 cents down at 9.30 rupees a share and Aitken Spence Hotel Holdings closed 1.30 rupees up at 29.20 rupees.

Access Engineering closed 20 cents up at 23.70 rupees.

Aitken Spence Plc closed 1.70 rupees down at 58.70 rupees.

Windforce Closed 20 cents down at 18.80 rupees, Chrissworld limited closed flat at 14.00 rupees and Prime Land Residencies closed 10 cents down at 10.40 rupees.

Royal Ceramic Lanka closed 10 cents up at 37.20 rupees, Lanka Tiles gained 70 cents to close at 53.00 rupees, Lanka Walltiles gained 20 cents to close at 63.00 rupees and Lanka ceramic closed 4.00 rupee up at 150.00 rupees.

Net Foreign Purchase were 632 million rupees.

The Utilities Industry group which was the most active fell 0.5 percent. (Colombo/June 17/2021)
