Sri Lanka stocks close 0.29-pct higher

ECONOMYNEXT – Sri Lanka stocks closed 0.29 percent higher on Wednesday, with Melstacorp, Lion Brewery and Distilleries pushing the ASPI up, brokers said.

The Colombo benchmark All Share Price Index gained 22.06 points to close at 7,564.26.

The S&P SL20 index of more liquid stocks gained 0.31 per cent or 9.46 points to close at 3,042.47.

Turnover was 1.4 billion rupees with 97 stocks gaining and 72 falling.

Distilleries Company closed 50 cents up at 21.00 rupees a share, Melstacorp Plc gained 2.10 rupees to close at 49.10 rupees and Lion Brewery closed 29,50 rupees up at 584.50 rupees.

LOLC Holdings fell 1.75 rupees to close at 376.00 rupees, Browns Investment closed flat at 6.40 rupees a share and Brown and Company fell 1.25 rupees to close at 175.25 rupees a share.

LOLC Finance closed flat at 6.50 rupees and LOLC Development Finance closed 7.20 rupees down at 65.70 rupees a share.

John Keells Holdings closed 50 cents down at 138.50 rupees a share and Vallibel one closed 10 cents down at 57.10 rupees a share.

Hayleys Plc closed 20 cents up at 76.50 rupees with key subsidiaries Dipped Products closing 40 cents down at 52.20 rupees and Haycarb Plc gained 40 cents to close at 96.00 rupees.

The Kingsbury closed 10 cents down at 6.30 and Singer Sri Lanka closed flat at 18.70 rupees.

Ceylon Tobacco Company PLC closed 50 cents up at 969.75 rupees, Piramal Glass Ceylon closed flat at 11.70 rupees and Ceylon Cold stores closed 10.00 rupees up at 615.00 rupees.

Sri Lanka Telecom closed 40 cents down at 33.90 rupees, Richard Pieris and Company closed 30 cents up at 17.90 rupees.

Dialog Axiata closed flat at 12.90 rupees, Nestle Lanka closed 7.25 rupees down at 1,105.50 rupees.

Housing Development Finance closed 80 cents up at 37.00 rupees while Central Finance Company closed 1.20 rupees down at 96.10 rupees.

Commercial Bank of Ceylon closed 70 cents up at 90.70 rupees.

Hatton National Bank closed flat at 134.50 rupees a share and Sampath Bank closed 10 cents down at 55.00 rupees a share

DFCC Bank closed 60 cents up at 63.20 rupees and Nations Trust Bank closed 20 cents down at 59.30 rupees.

Seylan Bank closed 20 cents up at 50.20 rupees and Pan Asia Banking Corporation closed 10 cents up at 16.60 rupees.

Bukit Darah closed 50 cents up at 275.00 rupees and Hemas Holdings closed 2.40 rupees down at 84.00 rupees.

Ceylon Grain Elevators closed 25 cents up at 142.00 rupees.

In the hotel sector, Eden Hotel Lanka closed flat at 9.90 rupees, John Keells Hotels closed10 cents up at 9.40 rupees a share and Aitken Spence Hotel Holdings closed flat at 28.50 rupees.

Access Engineering closed 10 cents down at 23.40 rupees and Carson Cumberbatch closed flat at 280.50 rupees.

Aitken Spence Plc closed 10 cents up at 59.90 rupees.

Windforce Closed 10 cents up at 19.50 rupees, Chrissworld limited gained 10 cents to close at 14.80 rupees and Prime Land Residencies who started trading yesterday fell 50 cents to close at 11.40 rupees.

Royal Ceramic Lanka closed 60 cents down at 37.70 rupees, Lanka Tiles gained 1.20 rupees to close at 53.70 rupees, Lanka Walltiles gained 60 cents to close at 63.70 rupees and Lanka ceramic closed flat at 153.50 rupees.

Net Foreign purchases were 21.3 million rupees.

The Materials Industry group which was the most active gained 1.03 percent. (Colombo/June 09/2021)
