ECONOMYNEXT – Sri Lanka stocks closed 0.45 percent higher on Wednesday’s closing on index heavy Ceylon Tobacco Company, Overseas realty Ceylon and Distilleries Company, Colombo Stock Exchange provisional data showed.
Colombo’s All Share Price Index gained 0.45 percent or 28.38 points to close at 6,345.84.
The S&P SL20 index of more liquid stocks gained 0.57 percent or 14.35 points to 2,512.27.
The main index started at a daily low at 6,343.12 but picked up to reach a daily high at 6,369.07 and continued on volatile trading to close marginally high.
The market turnover was 2.2 billion rupees with 111 stocks gaining and 84 falling.
Ceylon Tobacco Company contributed most to ASPI’s gain, gaining 21.30 rupees a share to trade at 977.50 rupees a share.
Overseas realty Ceylon gained 80 cents to trade at 14.50 rupees a share and Distilleries Company gained 20 cents to trade at 21.40 rupees also contributing to the ASPI gain.
Hatton National bank gained 10 cents to trade at 94.70 rupees, Commercial bank of Ceylon gained 20 cents to trade at 80.50 rupees a share, DFCC bank gained 10 cents a share to trade at 65.00 rupees a share and Sampath Bank gained 1.60 rupees a share to trade at 130.20 rupees a share.
LOLC Holdings gained 1.10 rupees to trade at 133.90 rupees a share, Browns Investment closed flat at 2.60 rupees a share while C T Holdings fell 4.00 rupees to trade at 162.00 rupees a share.
Sri Lanka Telecom gained 30 cents to trade at 32.80 rupees a share, Ceylon Cold Stores gained 8.90 rupees to trade at 659.10 rupees a share while Expolanka Holdings fell 40 cents to trade at 26.40 rupees a share.
Carson Cumberbatch gained 90 cents to trade at 266.10 rupees a share, Bukit Darah plc fell 2.50 rupees to trade at 350.00 rupees a share and Softlogic Holdings gained 40 cents to trade at 11.40 rupees a share.
John Keells Holdings gained 10 cents to trade at 149.00 rupees a share while Hemas Holdings fell 1.40 rupees to trade at 86.60 rupees a share and Melstacorp Plc fell 80 cents to trade at 43.00 rupees a share.
Hayleys PLC fell 70 cents to trade at 387.00 rupees a share and Dialog Axiata gained 10 cents to trade at 12.10 rupees a share.
Aitken Spence Plc gained 10 cents to trade at 53.90 rupees a share and Richard Pieris and Company gained 10 cents to trade at 14.70 rupees a share.
The Capital Goods Industry index, which was the most active, gained 0.07 percent.
