Sri Lanka stocks close 0.49-pct higher

ECONOMYNEXT – Sri Lanka stocks closed 0.49 per cent higher on Thursday, with LOLC Holdings, Hemas Holdings and Distilleries pushing the ASPI up, brokers said.

The Colombo benchmark All Share Price Index gained 36.90 points to close at 7,601.16.

The S&P SL20 index of more liquid stocks gained 1.04 per cent or 31.63 points to close at 3,074.10.

Turnover was 3.2 billion rupees with 107 stocks gaining and 71 falling.

LOLC Holdings gained 3.50 rupees to close at 379.50 rupees, Hemas Holdings closed 2.40 rupees up at 86.40 rupees a share and Distilleries Company closed 50 cents up at 21.30 rupees a share, contributing most to ASPI’s gain.

Melstacorp Plc fell 20 cents to close at 48.90 rupees and Lion Brewery closed flat at 584.50 rupees.

Browns Investment closed 10 cents down at 6.30 rupees a share and Brown and Company closed 25 cents up at 175.50 rupees a share.

LOLC Finance closed 10 cents down at 6.40 rupees and LOLC Development Finance closed 2.30 rupees up at 68.00 rupees a share.

John Keells Holdings closed 50 cents down at 138.00 rupees a share and Vallibel one closed 10 cents up at 57.20 rupees a share.

Hayleys Plc closed 80 cents down at 77.30 rupees with key subsidiaries Dipped Products closed 10 cents down at 52.10 rupees and Haycarb Plc fell 40 cents to close at 95.60 rupees.

The Kingsbury closed 10 cents up at 6.40 and Singer Sri Lanka closed up 20 cents to 18.90 rupees.

Ceylon Tobacco Company PLC closed 50 cents down at 969.25 rupees, Piramal Glass Ceylon closed 30 cents up at 12.00 rupees and Ceylon Cold stores closed 5.00 rupees down at 610.00 rupees.

Sri Lanka Telecom closed 50 cents up at 34.40 rupees, Richard Pieris and Company closed 10 cents up at 18.00 rupees.

Dialog Axiata closed 10 cents up at 13.00 rupees, Nestle Lanka closed 7.25 rupees down at 1,098.25 rupees.

Housing Development Finance closed 50 cents down at 36.50 rupees while Central Finance Company closed 10 cents down at 96.00 rupees.

Commercial Bank of Ceylon closed 40 cents up at 91.10 rupees.

Hatton National Bank closed 2.25 rupees up at 136.75 rupees a share and Sampath Bank closed 40 cents up at 55.40 rupees a share

DFCC Bank closed 1.20 rupees up at 64.40 rupees and Nations Trust Bank closed 50 cents up at 59.80 rupees.

Seylan Bank closed 20 cents up at 50.40 rupees and Pan Asia Banking Corporation closed 50 cents up at 17.10 rupees.

Bukit Darah closed 1.00 rupees down at 274.00 rupees.

Ceylon Grain Elevators closed 25 cents down at 141.75 rupees.

In the hotel sector, Eden Hotel Lanka closed flat at 9.90 rupees, John Keells Hotels closed 10 cents down at 9.30 rupees a share and Aitken Spence Hotel Holdings closed flat at 28.50 rupees.

Access Engineering closed 60 cents up at 24.00 rupees and Carson Cumberbatch closed flat at 280.00 rupees.

Aitken Spence Plc closed 10 cents up at 6.00 rupees.

Windforce Closed flat at 19.50 rupees, Chrissworld limited fell 10 cents to close at 14.70 rupees and Prime Land Residencies fell 40 cents to close at 11.00 rupees.

Royal Ceramic Lanka closed 1.20 rupees up at 38.90 rupees, Lanka Tiles gained 1.00 rupees to close at 54.70 rupees, Lanka Walltiles gained 1.30 rupees to close at 65.00 rupees and Lanka ceramic closed 3.00 rupees to close at 150.50 rupees.

Net Foreign purchases were 546 million rupees.
