Sri Lanka stocks close 0.58-pct up
ECONOMYNEXT- Sri Lanka’s stocks gained 0.58 percent on Carson Cumberbatch PLC, Browns Investments and Ceylon Tobacco Company on Wednesday, provisional data showed.
Colombo’s All Share Price Index (ASPI) closed 30.66 points up at 5,359.99 on Wednesday.
The market opened on a positive note but within the first hour into trading fell to a low of 5,341.94 but again picked up and continued the trajectory to close marginally high.
S&P SL20 Index of most liquid stocks closed today 0.37 percent or 8.66 points down at 2,351.09.
Market turnover was 1.7 billion rupees, while 94 stocks gained and 61 fell.
441.4 million rupee negotiated trade (crossing) was seen in John Keells PLC at 134.50 rupees a share and the stock closed at 135.00 rupees a share.
A crossing of 32.7 million rupees was seen in Dialog Axiata PLC at 10.90 rupees a share and the stock closed at 11.00 rupees a share .
Two crossings amounted to 274.6 million rupees was seen in Vidullanka PLC at 5.10 rupees a share and the stock closed flat at 5.10 rupees a share.
Net Foreign buying in the market was 642.4 million rupees.
Food, Beverage and tobacco industries was the most active industry in the equity market today.
Carson Cumberbatch PLC shares traded 22.10 rupees up at 197.00 rupees a share contributing most to ASPI’s gain.
Browns Investments Plc Holdings gained 20 cents to 2.50 rupees a share while Ceylon Tobacco Company was up 9.50 rupees to 977.80 rupees a share, also contributing to the ASPI gain. (Colombo/Sep 02/2020)
