Sri Lanka stocks close 0.72-pct up

ECONOMYNEXT – Sri Lanka stocks closed 0.72 percent higher largely on gains in John Keells Holdings, Ceylon Tobacco Co. and Sri Lankan Telecom on Friday, provisional data showed.

Colombo All Share Price Index (ASPI) closed 42.95points higher on 6,023.02.

The index reached an intra-day high of 6,025.27 in the last hour of trading before the market closed.

The S&P SL20 Index of more liquid stocks closed 0.73 percent or 21.74 points up at 2,986.52.

Market turnover was 917 million rupees with 102 stocks gaining and 49declining.

John Keells closed 3.30 rupees higher at 158.20 rupees a share, contributing most to the gain of the ASPI.

Ceylon Tobacco Company gained 12.80 rupees to 1,190.00 rupees a share while Sri Lanka Telecom gained 1.20 rupees to 33.00 rupees a share, also contributing to the ASPI’s gain.
