Sri Lanka stocks close down 0.31-pct

ECONOMYNEXT- Sri Lanka stocks closed 0.31percent lower mainly on losses in Ceylon Tobacco and Nestle Lanka Plc on Friday, provisional data showed.

Colombo All Share Price Index (ASPI) closed 19.06 points lower at 6,119.27.

Colombo’s All Share Price Index (ASPI) maintained a downward trend throughout the day with an intra-day high of 6,185.35 half an hour into trading and continued to fall to close marginally higher than the day’s lowest 6,107.31.

The S&P SL20 Index of more liquid stocks closed 0.01 percent or 0.24 points down at 3,028.11.

Market turnover was 925 million rupees with 79 stocks gaining and 74declining.

Ceylon Tobacco closed 29.10 rupees lower at 1,120.10 rupees a share, contributing most to the fall of the ASPI.

Nestle Lanka Plc fell 54.60 rupees to 1,245.20 rupees a share while Distilleries Company fell 20 cents to 19.40 rupees a share, also contributing to the fall of ASPI.
