Sri Lanka stocks close higher

ECONOMYNEXT – Sri Lanka stocks close 0.59 per cent higher on Thursday, pushed up by Browns Investments, Distilleries and LOLC Finance, brokers said.

The Colombo benchmark All Share Price Index gained 42.12 points to close at 7,188.09.

The index opened at 7,145.97 but shot up immediately minutes within the market opened but remained volatile throughout the day to close at 7,183.33.

The S&P SL20 index of more liquid stocks up 0.29 per cent or 8.20 points to close at 2,840.87.

Turnover was 1.2 billion rupees with 111 stocks gaining and 51 falling.

LOLC Finance closed 30 cents up at 6.50 rupees contributing most for ASPI’ gain.

LOLC Holdings up 1.00 rupees to close at 321.00 rupees, Brown and Company up 2.00 rupees to close at 184.25 rupees a share and Browns Investment up 20 cents to close at 6.70 rupees a share.

Expolanka Holdings gained 10 cents to close at 45.50 rupees a share and Melstacorp Holdings closed 80 cents up at 44.20 rupees a share.

Hayleys Plc closed 80 cents up at 75.70 rupees with key subsidiaries Dipped Products climbing 1.00 rupee to close at 55.00 rupees and Haycarb Plc up 1.00 rupees to close at 103.00 rupees.

John Keells Holdings closed 1.00 rupees down at 134.00 rupees a share while Vallibel One up 40 cents to close at 53.15 rupees a share.

The Kingsbury closed 10 cents up at 6.00 and Singer Sri Lanka closed 10 cents up at 18.60 rupees.

Commercial Bank of Ceylon closed 40 cents down at 79.60 rupees.

Hatton National Bank closed flat at 129.50 rupees a share and Sampath Bank closed 40 cents up at 50.10 rupees a share

DFCC Bank closed 50 cents up at 59.00 rupees and Nations Trust Bank closed 10 cents up at 53.90 rupees.

Seylan Bank closed 1.00 rupees up at 50.00 rupees and Pan Asia Banking Corporation closed 20 cents up at 16.00 rupees.

Housing Development Finance closed 1.70 rupees up at 36.00 rupees while Central Finance Company closed 50 cents down at 81.30 rupees.

Bukit Darah closed flat at 290.00 rupees, Hemas Holdings closed 20 cents down at 79.50 rupees and Ceylon Grain Elevators closed 1.00 rupee up at 126.50 rupees while Distilleries Company closed 40 cents up at 20.30 rupees a share.

In the hotel sector, Eden Hotel Lanka closed 30 cents up at 10.00 rupees, Aitken Spence Hotel Holdings closed 10 cents up at 28.20 rupees and John Keels Hotels flat at 9.00 rupees a share.

Access Engineering closed 20 cents up at 22.90 rupees and Carson Cumberbatch closed 2.00 rupees up at 277.00 rupees.

Nestle Lanka closed 21.00 rupees up at 1,023.75 rupees and Aitken Spence Plc closed 20 cents down at 49.80 rupees.

Sri Lanka Telecom closed 60 cents up at 33.50 rupees, Richard Pieris and Company closed 10 cents up at 15.70 rupees while Dialog Axiata closed 10 cents down at 12.70 rupees.

Piramal Glass Ceylon closed 10 cents up at 11.30 rupees, Ceylon Cold stores closed 75 cents up at 580.00 rupees and Ceylon Tobacco Company PLC climbed 7.50 rupees to close at 986.25 rupees a share.

Windforce Closed flat at 18.10 rupees.

Royal Ceramic Lanka gained 20 cents to close at 34.50 rupees, Lanka Tiles gained 1.30 rupees to close at 46.50 rupees, Lanka Walltiles up 50 cents to close at 47.00 rupees while Lanka Ceramic closed flat at 132.00 rupees.

Net foreign outflows was 54.7 million rupees.

The Food, Beverage & Tobacco sector was the most active, climbed 1.05 per cent. (Colombo/May 06/2021)
